Mindfulness (2 days)

Mindfulness provides the key linking theme within both skills training in DBT and all Third Wave CBT approaches - representing both a state of being as well as a technique. This two day course provides the delegates with practice opportunities of different types of mindfulness, as well as outlines a context within which different third wave approaches incorporate and conceptualise mindfulness: from Compassionate Mindfulness, through Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy to developing mindfulness as an alternative skill to emotional avoidance.

Approved by the British Psychological Society for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

This two-day introductory course can be taken as an independent stand-alone training module or as a part of two BPS Approved Certificates:

Follow the links above to learn more about each of the Certificates.

During the course of the two days, delegates will not only understand and practice different types of mindfulness exercises that they can incorporate into their work with clients but also address a range of practical questions and problems that inevitably arise when using this approach with clients. Questions include: Managing resistant clients, handling client concerns about mindfulness, the use of mindfulness with different client groups, dispelling mindfulness myths, the practicalities of running mindfulness groups, the degree to which the practitioner needs to be skilled in mindfulness practice themselves before teaching others.

This course is part of the training programme that enables you to complete one or two the BPS Approved Certificates: Certificate in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Certificate in Third Wave CBT. You can build up gradually your training portfolio by attending all the courses within the programme at the pace that suits you. All your training hours will be calculated, recorded in an individual validated log and accumulated towards your full Certificate.

Mindfulness for Life: An Interview with Jon Kabat-Zinn - 1 CPD Hour

In an era of smartphones, Facebook, and endless distractions, practicing mindfulness is a radical act. Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as purposefully and non-judgmentally paying attention to the present moment, as if your life depended on it. Preoccupied with planning for the future or ruminating about the past, the present moment so often gets completely overlooked, robbing us of the opportunity to be fully, consciously, and responsibly alive. Mindfulness is the antidote to this tendency to sleepwalk through our days, and an invitation to reclaim our lives.

Mindfulness in Psychotherapy: Tailoring the Practice to the Person (8 DVDs)

Mindfulness & awareness of the present moment with acceptance is a deceptively simple way of relating to experience that has been practiced for over 2,500 years to alleviate human suffering. Recently, mental health professionals are enthusiastically discovering that mindfulness holds great promise for their own personal development and as a way to enhance therapeutic relationships. It is also the central ingredient in a great number of new empirically validated treatments, and is proving to be a remarkably powerful technique to augment virtually every form of psychotherapy.
