Mindfulness (2 days)

NB! - Course runs for 2 (TWO) consecutive days from the date advertised.

Mindfulness provides the key linking theme within the Certificate in 3rd Wave CBT - representing both a state of being as well as a technique. This two day course provides the delegates with practice opportunities of different types of mindfulness, as well as outlines a context within which different third wave approaches incorporate and conceptualise mindfulness: from Compassionate Mindfulness, through Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy to developing mindfulness as an alternative skill to emotional avoidance.

Can be taken as an individual two-day course or as a part of a Certificate in Third Wave CBT, Approved by the British Psychological Society for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

5 Modules of the Certificate in Third Wave CBT:

During the course of the two days, delegates will not only understand and practice different types of mindfulness exercises that they can incorporate into their work with clients but also address a range of practical questions and problems that inevitably arise when using this approach with clients. Questions include: Managing resistant clients, handling client concerns about mindfulness, the use of mindfulness with different client groups, dispelling mindfulness myths, the practicalities of running mindfulness groups, the degree to which the practitioner needs to be skilled in mindfulness practice themselves before teaching others.

Dr Fiona Kennedy has been practising mindfulness based approaches for over a decade both personally and as part of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Co-Editor of Cognitive Behavioural Approaches to the Understanding and Treatment of Dissociation (2013) and the developer of one of the primary models within the field, she has argued convincingly how dissociation and mindfulness are diametrical opposites. Her incorporation of mindfulness training with a wide range of client groups – from those with personality disorders and schizophrenia through to senior business managers ensures an unmatched breadth of knowledge and experience.

Mindfulness for Life: An Interview with Jon Kabat-Zinn - 1 CPD Hour

In an era of smartphones, Facebook, and endless distractions, practicing mindfulness is a radical act. Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as purposefully and non-judgmentally paying attention to the present moment, as if your life depended on it. Preoccupied with planning for the future or ruminating about the past, the present moment so often gets completely overlooked, robbing us of the opportunity to be fully, consciously, and responsibly alive. Mindfulness is the antidote to this tendency to sleepwalk through our days, and an invitation to reclaim our lives.

Here, you’ll discover how mindfulness differs from meditation, folds into treatment for a vast range of clinical issues, and supports our own personal and professional growth.

Mindfulness in Psychotherapy: Tailoring the Practice to the Person (8 DVDs)

Mindfulness & awareness of the present moment with acceptance is a deceptively simple way of relating to experience that has been practiced for over 2,500 years to alleviate human suffering. Recently, mental health professionals are enthusiastically discovering that mindfulness holds great promise for their own personal development and as a way to enhance therapeutic relationships. It is also the central ingredient in a great number of new empirically validated treatments, and is proving to be a remarkably powerful technique to augment virtually every form of psychotherapy.
