Becoming an SDS Tutor

We always welcome new professionals who believe they can contribute to our training programme.

There are two options for potential SDS tutors to consider:

I. As an associate tutor:

  1. You may run (subject to the provisions below) existing SDS courses of your choice within your own organization.
    Conditions:
    • You have previously attended the chosen open seminar/workshop as a paying delegate.

    • You run the course ONLY as an SDS tutor, not as an independent one.

    • Your employer pays SDS Ltd only half of the standard in-house course fee, although they receive the same course package as that delivered on the standard training day. You therefore save your employer half the cost of the course by tutoring it in your work time.

    • SDS Ltd pays you an honorarium in recognition of your ‘out of hours’ work: e.g. preparation, familiarising yourself with and abiding by SDS principles, telephone preparation, support and advice from an experienced SDS tutor, the return of evaluation sheets to SDS after the training day. This honorarium is paid for each training day you provide you employer with. This process also enables you to build your way to promotion to senior associate tutor

  2. As an associate trainer you will have access to SDS’ bonus scheme, Continuing Professional Development opportunities and the prospect of further progression within SDS Ltd.

II. As a senior associate tutor:

  1. You may run (subject to the provisions below) existing SDS courses outside your own organization either as in-house or as open seminars/workshops.
    Conditions:
    • SDS pays you a training consultant’s fee and expenses at the prevailing rate for this.

    • Whether you train in-house or on open seminars/workshops will depend on a variety of factors including course demand, your seniority, specialty, how long you have been a tutor with us etc.

  2. You may suggest a topic that you would like to run, although it is not currently included on the list of topics delivered by SDS. If we find your suggestion potentially interesting, meeting the needs of our clients and the conceptual principles of our organization, we would help you to develop it into a training course. This would be offered for in-house training to other organizations (incl. your own organization) and/or as an open course as part of SDS’ training package.

  3. As a Senior Associate Trainer you will have access to SDS’ bonus scheme, Continuing Professional Development opportunities and the prospect of further progression within SDS Ltd.

In return there are certain obligations, principally:

  1. To maintain the highest standards of teaching and general behaviour while representing SDS Ltd.

  2. To abide by SDS’ code of ethics as outlined in your contract with SDS Ltd.

  3. To act as an advocate for SDS training in the interests of everyone concerned.

To be an SDS tutor is a significant professional step so in order to achieve this status you must:

  • Provide us with your CV. This can be e-mailed to us at info@skillsdevelopment.co.uk or posted at P.O.Box 254, Uckfield, TN22 9BN.

  • Be prepared to provide us with satisfactory references from two specified referees (one of which should be your current employer another — someone who can comment on your teaching style).

If you are planning to propose a new training topic, please complete and return to us Form 2_1 (Course Proposal Form)
